Dean Nadasdy

The Rev. Dr. Dean Nadasdy is President Emeritus of the Minnesota South District of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, having retired in 2018. His parish experience includes pastorates at Woodbury Lutheran Church, Woodbury, Minnesota (2000–2012); Cross View Lutheran Church, Edina, Minnesota (1981–1997); and Grace Lutheran Church, Eugene, Oregon (1973–1981).

Nadasdy served as a Vice President of the LCMS from 2004 to 2010. He was awarded Doctor of Letters degrees from Concordia University, Nebraska and Concordia University, St. Paul.

From 1997 to 2000 Nadasdy served as Associate Professor of Practical Theology at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, where he held the Gregg H. Benidt Memorial Chair in Homiletics and Literature. Since 2000 he has continued teaching as an adjunct instructor in the D. Min. program at Concordia Seminary. He is a frequent presenter at pastoral and church worker conferences and has lectured in homiletics at seminaries in Latvia and Hungary. He currently serves as a periodic guest preacher on The Lutheran Hour.

Nadasdy has written curriculum (Concordia Publishing House and Augsburg) and is a contributor to Creative Worship for the Lutheran Parish, Concordia Journal, Concordia Pulpit Resources, and Preach the Word. He also contributed study notes to the Lutheran Study Bible (Concordia Publishing House). His published books include Cross Views: Story Dramas That Teach the Faith (Concordia Publishing House), Gospel Dramas (Augsburg); Tough Days and Talks with God (Augsburg); Questions Teens are Asking Today (Concordia Publishing House); and Preaching is Worship (Concordia Publishing House). He has chaired Mass Events and Worship Committees for several LCMS National Youth Gatherings. He has written sermon series and devotional booklets for Creative Communications, including “The Parables of Lent” (2017) and “The Sermon on the Mount in Lent” (2019). Five of his choral lyrics have been published (Augsburg, MorningStar, and Concordia Publishing House). His most recent book is The Beautiful Sermon, on the aesthetics of preaching.

Nadasdy currently chairs the Board of Directors of Feed My Starving Children, a global hunger relief agency based in Minnesota. He is married to Susie, a retired Lutheran middle and high school English and speech teacher. They are blessed with three children, Kristin, Molly, and Philip; and five grandchildren, Luke, Greta, Micah, Emily, and Esther.
