Steve Sohns

Pastor Steve, as he is widely known, is passionate about missions. The Rev. Dr. Stephen Sohns was taught the importance of reaching the disconnected by his father, Rev. Will Sohns. Steve graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary Ft. Wayne in 1984. He received his Doctorate of Ministry from Fuller Seminary in 2007. He served a dual parish in Manchester and Delaware for 6 years. In 1990, he was called to Resurrection in Spring TX. Steve served there until his retirement in 2023. Now he is serving the Texas District and The Harvest Partnership doing what he loves most—connecting people together to partner in reaching those who are disconnected from Jesus wherever they meet people: where they live, work, eat, and play.

Steve is married to Ursula, a retired English professor, and editor of this publication. They have 3 children and 1 daughter-in-law. Through their work, they have many unofficial family members who are as close to them as their own children. They love to travel and help Steve’s father publish books.

The Harvest Partnership is one current manifestation of God’s work when congregations partner together. This group is a band of pastors and congregations who want to plant churches to reach the people who are disconnected from Christ. It started with two pastors, Steve and pastor Al Doering, who connected to each other for support and accountability in ministry. Eventually, Steve and Resurrection were invited to partner with Christ the King in Kingwood, TX to share in planting a church in the vast areas between these two congregations. Over time, this group has grown to many churches, pastors, and laity who are committed to sharing God’s word wherever they are. It is not an organization or a system, it is a mindset.
